Awesome

Christmas was awesome this year! It's not quite over yet, so it could get even better. It all started with a really great Christmas Eve service, which despite a technical difficulty that led to some impromtu speaking, turned out fine. There were several visitors who I'm glad made it, and I hope will return. Then, this morning I wake, because I'm weezing due to a lingering cold, and it is snowing out side. It's still currently snowing as I type this, which is awesome. I got a harmonica as a gift, which should provide some whimsy if I ever decide to try and play it. I also had fun gaming online with some fellas from the UK! Pretty good day, I'd say. How was your Christmas?

Indignation

I've heard a couple people this year who have said to me they are upset that no one says Merry Christmas anymore. And although I am admittedly a bit jaded by what seems to be yearly fads of Christian indignation, this one seems to be hanging around.

In 1 Corinthians, Paul reminds us that "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it.", which includes all those new "holiday" trees popping up everywhere! I remember when people began to fume about the use of the term X-mas. They said the world was taking Christ out of Christmas. However, when you dig deep enough you find that the X is the common Greek abbreviation/symbol for Christ, and therefore not the sacrilege it once was.

I think we need to be careful about what we become indignant about. Perhaps we should be caught ranting about the millions of people dying with AIDS in Africa as much, if not more than whether or not the salesman said Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays. Remember, as a Christian you celebrate both Christmas and New Years this season, so you are technically enjoy multiple holidays. Perhaps it isn't the affront to us as we might think it is.

Daft

A pretty cool mash up of Daft Punk's "Around the World" and vintage footage of guys dancing, presumbably during the 40's or 50's.

Fascination

I've always been fascinated by skateboarding. The amazing talent and athleticism, combined with an almost inherent artistic outpour is incredible to me. This kid, Tim Byrne, is extremely blessed, and he'd be the first to tell you. I found out about him after watching the first "LivinIt" DVD. Here's a taste of what he can do:

Waiting

Ever feel like you're waiting for something that seems like it may never happen? I often feel this way, but I know that God's providence is bigger than my impatience. Sometimes it's a little thing like waiting in a line that doesn't seem to be moving, or sometimes it's bigger. Like waiting for life to change up a bit and bring someone new into your life, or have you moving on to something new and exciting. Some are not a fan of change, especially the unknown that comes with that, but I'd take that nervous, stomach in you feet feeling over what can feel like agony over waiting for things to change. My impatience is always an opportunity to grow into a stronger person, one who can really on God for the things I can't provide myself.

Inspiration

I often find myself examining what I draw on for inspiration. I feel as if I need to give at least mental credit to the things which have driven me to create and be creative. What is it that makes something have this kind of influence on us? Did the author intend for it to have that kind of impact on us, or is it a secondary benefit of it? Can authors fully control that inspiration in any way, or is it completely individual to the person experiencing it? These question drive me to find what it is that inspires me and what it takes to have that kind of effect on others. What kind of things inspire you, and can you pinpoint what it is that moves you so? Food for thought...

First

First. There something special about being first. As Ricky Bobby's dad would say, if you're not first, your last; which means being first is better than the rest. I'm not sure that applies to blog posts, but if anything this post is special because it is the forerunner to many more. Hopefully the ideas will flow from my brain as well as they tend to do from my fingers. I play guitar, manipulate turntables, and use my fingers in many ways. All of which I hope bring life to those who do not have it. This blog will be the overflow of that journey...
